Doug Walters and Newcastle Lord Mayor to throw house warming party

Ask any former Australian test cricketer of the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s: no party is complete without Doug Walters.

That’s why Doug and Newcastle Lord Mayor Cr John Tate will join forces to throw a house warming party on Thursday 10 June, 2004 to host the official opening of the 2HD Homes for Hope by Wincrest Homes at the Glendore Estate at Maryland.

The opening will be the culmination of twelve months work on three homes that will result in $100,000 being raised for Newcastle City Mission’s youth services.

Event details:

The project has drawn together 60 regional businesses and corporations, which have helped with the construction, the supply of materials, garden plants, landscaping, furnishing and fitting out of the three homes.

The three homes will be open as a Wincrest Homes Display Village for 12 months and include two single storey, four bedroom contemporary designed homes and one double storey, four bedroom home.

All three homes have been built by Wincrest and will be sold before June 30, 2004.

Wesley Mission’s Homes for Hope program is a community based project where homes are built utilising donations of land, materials, building labour and furnishings, and then sold on the retail market.

The proceeds from the sale of Homes for Hope homes are injected into the local community to support Wesley Mission’s caring programs: in this case Newcastle City Mission’s youth services.

“This is the seventh Homes for Hope project we have undertaken since the pilot project at Kellyville in 1998,” said Project Manager Louise Bull. “Since then we have undertaken projects on the Gold Coast, Green Smart Village at Kellyville, North Lakes Brisbane, Warnervale on the Central Coast and most recently on the Shamrock Hill Estate at East Maitland.

“We could not have undertaken the Newcastle project without our partners, Wincrest Homes and Newcastle’s 1143 2HD. 1143 2HD have been publicising the progress of the project and helping us secure donations of outstanding supplies as required.”
